Tips for Writing Your Own Wedding Vows

So, the moment when you need to write your vows is here.
Most of the people don’t know what to write in them, how to phrase,
Use humor or not and should you use romantic phrases or not?
Let's try to figure it out…

Before you start writing, it’s important to understand the difference between a vow and a Declaration of Intent, both important parts of a wedding ceremony. When a couple agrees to marry each other by their own free will, that section of the ceremony is called the Declaration of Intent. The language specifically focuses on what you “will” and not on what you “do.” It is meant to remind the couple that their “will” is key to their relationship.
Once you sit down to write your vows, don't feel bad if you're staring at the blank page wondering why on earth you decided to do this. Don't feel bad - but don't run away! Remember the reasons you chose to make Your own vows in the first place, and take a deep
Breath; this will be all worth it in the end.

Tips for Writing Your Own Wedding Vows:

Ask yourself these key questions:*
• How did you meet and what made you fall in love?
• What do you love about each other?
• What does getting married mean to you?
• What are some of your dreams and intentions for married life?
• What story do you want to share about your love?
Your answers can provide unique insights that can be blended into your vows.

* Be personal, but not too personal. You do want your vows to have meaning, but remember your wedding Is a public event. Keep decisions such as child rearing details and financial responsibilities to private discussions at home.
Don’t be too long: 1-3 minutes is ideal.
* Practice, practice, practice – read vows aloud several times to yourself and your fiancé. If something isn’t
Working or does sound they way you want it to, chances are you should
Change it before the ceremony.

An example for Short and Sweet Vows:

" I love you for your beauty, your intelligence, your kindness...and for the way you always know how to make me feel so special. So on top of all the other vows that I will make to you on our wedding day, I also vow to always appreciate how lucky I am to have someone who makes me feel the way you do and to continue to try as hard as I can to make you feel as special as you make me feel, forever and ever.

You have been my best friend, mentor, playmate, confidant and my greatest challenge. But most importantly, you are the love of my life and you make me happier than I could ever imagine and more loved than I ever thought possible.... You have made me a better person, as our love for one another is reflected in the way I live my life. So I am truly blessed to be a part of your life, which as of today becomes our life together. "

Here are some ideas for writing your vows:
Non-traditional wedding vows:
  • Because of you, I laugh, I smile, I dare to dream again.
I look forward with great joy to spending the rest of my
life with you, caring for you, nurturing you, being there for you in all life
has for us, and I vow to be true and faithful for as long
    as we both shall live.
  • (Name), I take you to be my wife/husband from this time onward,
to join with you and to share all that is to come, to be your faithful husband/wife,
    to give and to receive, to speak and to listen, to inspire and to respond;
a commitment made in love, kept in faith, and eternally made new.
  • I love you. You are my best friend.
Today I give myself to you in marriage.
I promise to encourage and inspire you, to laugh with you,
and to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle.
I promise to love you in good times and in bad,
when life seems easy and when it seems hard,
when our love is simple, and when it is an effort.
I promise to cherish you, and to always hold you in highest regard
these things I give to you today, and all the days of our life.
  • The sun smiles on us today, our wedding day, and how can it not, for
our love is stronger than forever and our hearts beat together as one.
I promise to be a true and faithful partner from this day forward, in
all life's circumstances, as we face them together. In the joys and
sorrows, the good times and bad, in sickness or in health, I will always
be there for you, to comfort you, love you, honor and cherish you, now
    and forevermore.

As you know, I got married in a Jewish ceremony,
where it is not costumed to change vows, but we asked the Rabbi to say a few words.
At the end of the ceremony, just before the glass broke in,
I took the microphone and told my husband something very personal-
"my flower, my tola averta" which means my flower
I love you in the Indian language.
After that he broke the glass and the party began.

So, how were your vows?
 Would you like to share?

See you on the next post,
Talila .
